Clear out the winter
Start by removing netting, fallen leaves, and any debris that built up over winter. A clean surface makes everything else easier and lets you see the real condition of the pond underneath.
Check your equipment
Before you fire everything back up, inspect your pump, filter, and plumbing for cracks or wear from the cold. Catching a small issue now is far cheaper than a failure in July.
Rebalance the water
Test the water and bring it back into balance gradually. A slow, steady startup is much easier on your fish than shocking the system all at once.
Ease your fish back in
As the water warms, your koi and goldfish become active again. Start feeding lightly and watch how they respond before getting back to a full routine.
